There Are Two Lakes
Don’t feel bad—most people don’t know this either. There are two lakes: Lake Austin and Lake Travis.
Lake Austin: Right in the heart of Austin. More chill, less party.
Lake Travis: 30–45 minutes from downtown. This is the party lake, and the one you want.
Best Days and Times
From mid-March to the end of October, as long as it’s hot, there are parties.
Saturdays: Busier than Fridays.
Fridays: Still good but lighter.
Sundays: Best for long weekends.
Prime time: 12–6 PM.
Two Ways to Party on Lake Travis
1. Rent Your Own Private Charter
This is the standard—and best—way to hit up Devil’s Cove.
You can choose from a variety of boats to fit your group size or budget.
Your captain will find other boats to tie up to, and everyone parties together (in theory).
Downsides:
Not always ideal for smaller groups.
Boat operators split the day into morning and afternoon bookings. Morning is too early (10 AM), and late afternoon can be dead.
Sometimes you get stuck tied up to less-than-ideal boats (all dudes, boring crowds, etc.).
Pro tip: hire a seasoned boat operator. They work with other captains and make sure your crew ends up at the right party.
2. Join a Booze Cruise
The booze cruise is an excellent choice for a Lake Travis bachelor party.
Usually, a barge with 100+ people, a DJ, and BYOB coolers (saves money).
Runs during peak hours when the lake is wild.
Often has a 2:1 girls-to-guys ratio—great for meeting people.
Perfect for smaller groups (10 or less) since it’s priced per person.
