Austin · A day on the river

A tube. Your friends.
Very little ambition.

How to plan a bachelor-party river float from Austin: choose the river section, arrange transport, pack properly and leave enough time for the return.

The short answer

River tubing is the afternoon for a group that wants to spend time together without keeping score. The water does the moving. Your job is to choose the right float, get everybody there and avoid booking dinner while half the group is still looking for a towel.

Start here

Choose the river section.

San Marcos, Comal and Guadalupe outings have different routes and conditions.

Build around it

Reserve the afternoon.

The float is only part of the day. Include transfers, check-in and changing.

Decide early

Shared or private ride?

Confirm pickup, return and the complete group booking.

The actual destination

“Tubing in Austin” needs an address.

Many tubing outings sold for Austin groups take place outside the city. Start with the river, outfitter and exact put-in and exit points. San Marcos River options include an in-town float and longer outings near Martindale; they are not interchangeable bookings.

For a longer group afternoon, the Martindale stretch is worth discussing with your planner. For a shorter float, ask about the in-town San Marcos option. Comal and Guadalupe trips need their own route and travel plan. Do not apply one river’s rules or duration to another.

A downtown skyline photo is not proof of a bookable river float. Tell us whether you want a proper tubing excursion or a lake day; we will help match the actual outing to the group.

Compare it with a Lake Travis boat day

The day, not just the float

Leave room for the return.

One pickup. Everyone together. A surprisingly important part of the plan.

As one useful reference, Texas State Tubes describes its public Austin trip as roughly an hour of travel each way and around three hours floating. Those are estimates for that specific trip, with return time affected by conditions and the group. A different outfitter or river section may be much shorter.

Add time for check-in, getting ready, collecting belongings and changing afterward. Keep dinner comfortably beyond the planned return, especially if you are joining a shared bus.

Connected Austin’s river-tubing service includes a tube and round-trip transport from your house. Confirm the exact route, pickup and return window for your date. When comparing other options, remember that a local river shuttle back to a parking lot is not the same as transport back to Austin.

Bring the useful things

The river does not need your good sunglasses.

Bring secure water shoes, sunscreen, drinking water, a towel and a change of clothes. Pack only the valuables you need and agree on secure storage with the operator. A dry bag is more useful than one friend insisting his pocket will probably be fine.

Check the rules for the exact river section and operator before packing drinks or a cooler. Container restrictions vary. Ask about cooler tubes, life jackets, belongings and trash; leave the river with everything you brought.

Follow the outfitter’s briefing and current conditions. Wear a properly fitted life jacket and keep alcohol out of the swimming and floating plan. Never assume tying the whole group together is safe: Texas State Tubes specifically advises against connecting tubes because of the hazards.

Weather and water

The forecast gets a vote.

Check operating status and river conditions close to departure. Flow can change the duration and suitability of a float; severe weather can change whether it runs at all. Ask who makes that call and what the cancellation or rescheduling terms are.

For a mixed group, discuss swimming confidence, mobility and getting in and out before booking. Everyone should understand the activity and be able to choose a different plan.

If the river is not right for your dates, keep the group together with a different daytime anchor. A planned change is easier than twelve people making twelve suggestions in the driveway.

Consider an Austin pool afternoon

Make it a bachelor-party day

Float first. Dinner later.

Keep breakfast simple and have everyone ready for the agreed pickup. On the way back, the next priority is dry clothes and food—not squeezing in a second outdoor excursion.

Send your dates, head count and stay location. We can check the float and transport together, then fit the rest of the weekend around them. Ask for the full breakdown of what is included rather than assuming tubes, coolers and drinks all come with the same booking.

Before you book

The useful questions.

How long does river tubing from Austin take?

It depends on the river section and transport. A longer San Marcos outing can occupy much of the day once travel and check-in are included. Confirm the operator’s complete schedule rather than using only the time in the water.

Is transport included?

Connected Austin’s river-tubing service includes round-trip transportation from your house. Confirm your pickup, river section and return window for your booking.

Can we bring drinks?

Check the current container and cooler rules for your exact river section and operator. Bring drinking water and keep alcohol separate from water activities.
